Ngong Ping Village is located at Lantau Island, Hong Kong and home of the Tian Tan Buddha Statue. It's actually quite far from from where we stayed (Tsim Sha Tsui) - you need a long MTR ride from Tsim Sha Tsui station (Tsuen Wan Line), transfer to Tung Chung Line at Lai King station, then get off at Tung Chung station, which is the end of the Tung Chung Line. From there, it's still a 30-minute cable car ride.
It was very crowded when we reached Ngong Ping Village. Though it appears that the entire place is now modernized, their culture is still very much intact, as evidenced by monks and Shaolin martial artists all around. You can even join workshops, but we didn't try.
After watching some shows and workshops, we headed to the giant Buddha. You can easily see the Buddha from the cable car, and I just realized how big it really was as I came closer. It has this white gate which is already huge as it is, but the giant Buddha is really the star of Ngong Ping 360.
After climbing up to see the Buddha up close and going back down, we walked around and headed to the Po Lin Monastery. There were quite a number of Buddhists praying and lighting incense, but there are also foreigners, like us, who were just there to look around, observe and satisfy our curiosity. After taking some more pictures, we rode the cable car again and went the same route back to downtown Hong Kong.
