Mount Nesugata (寝姿山)

Going to the top of Mt. Nesugata doesn't require hiking. Since there was a cable car station that was quite near to the Izukyu Shimoda station (伊豆急下田駅), where we got off coming from Shirahama (白浜) , we took that ride going up the mountain. The cable car station is actually just a stone's throw away from the train station - crossing the road will reveal the Shimoda Ropeway station (下田ロープウェイ).

A round-trip ticket costs 1,200円 each only if you'd like to visit the Renjo Photo Memorial Hall (蓮杖写真記念館), but if not, it's only 1,000円, and we got the latter not because we didn't want to see the memorial hall, but we didn't have much time. There's also an available 100円 discount coupon (割引券) from their website (please see the link at the bottom of this post) which we forgot to print. Anyway, to get the discount, just present the coupon to the counter inside the station. The station also serves as a souvenir shop.

The cable car ride from the station to the mountain was just a couple of minutes, and the car could fit about 10-15 people. At the other terminus was another souvenir shop, a cafe, and the initial viewing deck. At that time, there were ongoing renovations so we just walked up the mountain immediately.

Further up the mountain were some more viewing decks (寝姿展望台, 黒船展望台, 下田市街一望), the photo memorial hall, a free lounge (無料休憩所), the Aizenmyouou Temple (愛染明王堂) and the Goto monument (五島記念碑). We got to see these for about an hour and finished the entire round-trip for 1.5 hours.
